Anyone have any experience towing with a Honda Pilot 2WD?  Owners manual says 3500# with 2 passengers and 3100# with 4 passengers.  Thanks for any advise.

Welcome, "bigtex" to our forums.

I have no experience with Honda Pilot, however, RV.Net forum's rule of thumb for safety and so as not to ruin your transmission while towing is to multiply the Gross Vehicle Towing Capacity by 80%.  Thus, with two occupants (driver + passenger):

.80 (3500 lbs.) = 2800 lbs.

Therefore, apears that your vehicle would qualify as a tow vehicle for up to the Classic 14RB/RK size (2150 lbs. + 500 lbs. of camping gear = 2650 lbs.)  The 14RB and RK, both have axle capacity of 2700 or 2800 lbs.  When towing, turn off your Overdrive gear.  Also, highly recommended to have Honda dealer install a transmission fluid cooler, to save your transmission……quite expensive to repair.  X-mission coolers are not very expensive.

John, your post was well thought out and correct.  I especially agree with "take care of your transmission". No Overdrive while towing and have a transmission oil cooler installed.
