Hi, everyone

Although I just joined the forum today, I have been following it for months. I have picked up a lot of useful info from you friendly people and I hope I can contribute some ideas of my own.  I purchased a 14RB in February and took an extensive trip with it from Stevensville, ON (really Ft. Erie , just across the border from Buffalo NY) to Cape Cod and Boston. We had a great 9 days. Although we loved the 14 RB we decided to purchase the 16BH because we like the layout of space better. Last year, our dealer (Niagara Trailers) had no 16BH trailers.

We towed the trailer with our 2004 Buick Rendezvous and had no problems at all even though the return trip through Massachusetts was very windy. The only modifications I had done to the Buick was to add a transmission cooler. Also, on the advice of some veteran campers I drove in 3rd gear most of the time.

I won't pick up the 16BH until next spring so we'll have lots ot time to plan our next trips.

Welcome, Garth!

I can understand 3rd gear for fairly steep grades, but certainly not for normal towing.  Never in overdrive is a must.  The 14RB and 14RK are similar trailer weights…….less than 3,000 lbs. loaded.  Please explain.

As I mentioned, I drove in 3rd gear on the advice of some very experienced campers, one of whom drives from Buffalo to Texas every year hauling a 30 ft fifth wheel with his Ram 3500  using mostly 3rd gear, and the Mister Transmission owner who installed the transmission cooler. Since most of our trip was in very hilly country in NY and Mass. I found that it was better to stay in third because in drive the car was continually shifting gears. When I found the terrain to be fairly flat, I switched to drive and the trip was quite smooth.
