I’m sure that I have mentioned at one time or another that I am a traveller as opposed to a destination type person. My dream for retirement was to travel as much of North America as possible … exploring all the back roads and country roads that I can find and document my trips with my passion for photography.

If the past is any indication it would not be unusual for me to travel 20, 30 or more miles down some road only to wind up at a dead end in a field or at the ocean … and then have to figure out how to turn around. :)

Towing the trailer during the past few months has made me realize that this is NOT the way I want to travel. I feel somewhat restricted on the places I can go, unless I unhook and leave the trailer somewhere … and then that presents the problem as to "where" do I leave it??

So … what to do? During the past few months I have been exploring the idea of acquiring a motorhome. I found a number that I really like … one in particular really caught my eye. Problem was it was too large for me to accomplish my travel goals … worse than the trailer really.

It seem that everything came full circle for me. Seven to eight years ago I remember looking at the Class B motorhome on the Mercedes/Sprinter chassis. I liked it but thought it was a bit pricy for the size. Well … low and behold here I am looking at them again. This time the 2012 Winnebago ERA.

I took one for a test drive the other day … fell in love with it … the dealer agreed to take my van and trailer on trade … and there you have it.

I am now the proud owner of the 2012 Winnebago ERA.

When I joined this site … well quite frankly I didn’t have a clue what was what. I would read posts and just scratch my head in total bewilderment. Slowly I began to read more and more and with the patience of you all here on the Sportsman Classic (and Spree Escape) Owners Club I actually began to understand. Got some great tips and ideas.

I hope you don’t mind but I would like to "hang around" for a bit and do some lurking every once in awhile. I’m sure that there is a lot of information that can be shared and is applicable to either the trailer or a motorhome.

I am spending today cleaning out the trailer and removing the semi permanent bed and replacing the dinette table and cushions which are still brand new.

If you happen to see a Winnebago ERA with Ontario plates … don’t be shy … toot the horn, wave … or say hello.

Thanks for everything … you have made the transition from trailer to motorhome a breeze for me.

Below is a picture of the actual unit I purchased. I pick it up in Wednesday morning.

Thank you so much Julie.  I have every intentions of sticking around. I have learned so much from you all. In fact, everything I have learned I will be able to apply it to the RV.

I have made a check list of things I want the technician to go through on Wednesday and it is based on things mentioned here.

I am very content with my decision. I never really had the opportunity to take full advantage of the trailer. The ERA really suits my needs and my style of travelling much better.

If you all do get a Sportman Classic meet and greet going as discussed in another thread … I wonder if you all would let a "black sheep" amongst the flock. Laugh

Hey Julie … I kept everything extra I bought, including the leveling blocks/pads, water pressure attachment etc.

A friend made a great set of leveling ramps similar to ones that someone on this site posted pictures on their Flicker web site. They work great … for now. I have to admit that I am looking at a set of levelling jacks from a company called BIGFOOT Quadra Manufacturing.

Here is a link to thier site: http://www.quadraleveler.com/store/

They also have level jacks for trailers as well. Much cheaper than the ones I looked at when I first bought the trailer.

Thanks again.

While our little trailers are an affordable way to RV, I agree with you, Karsty.  If I had the money I would get into a class B also.  Only thing is, I dream of having 4 wheel drive for those out-of-the-way dirt tracks and remote boondock locations.

You got a sleek looking unit there.  I'm kinda jealous!  Wink

Enjoy your travels Karsty!  I think our little trailers are a great way to get into the hobby and really decide what it is we want to do and what really will fit with our lifestyle.  For now my 16BH suits my needs but I know that it won't be my last trailer.
