We just recently bought a 19SB and just love it.  We had intended to take it out closer to home for our maiden voyage but we never got the chance.  So our first trip turned out to be a 5 hour drive from home.  We started off in Blanco State Park (TX).  It's a small park but DH and I found it very peaceful.  It had the sewer hookup at the site so DH was able to practice his first "dump" without a long line of campers waiting behind him at the dump station.  Smile  After several days there, we headed to Lost Maples State Park (also in TX).  Let's just say having a V6 was not fun as we were heading up and down very steep windey roads.  But our Ram was a trooper and we only petered out on one big hill.  Cry  Lost Maples is so beautiful this time of year and it was a wonderful experience.  For us Texans, seeing red, orange and yellow leaves is a rarity.  If you love hiking, this is a great place.  We were blessed with great weather and I so loved not having to run to the camp ground facilities at 5 a.m. to use the bathroom.  We had taken out the table so we had plenty of room to move around inside.  The only thing we didn't use was the furnace.  With temps in the high 70's during the day and mid 50's at night, we were very comfortable without air conditioning or heater.  The trip home was long and nerve racking with steep downhill hair pin turns as we decided to take a different path home.  But DH did a great job and we arrived home safely with lots of good memories.Cool  So glad I had this forum before we took our first trip.  It sure helped us to have a smooth and trouble free outing.

Glad you enjoyed the trip, even with the TV adventures.  I love Lost Maples but have never been to Blanco – I will have to check it out.

It sounds like you had a blast.  Where is Lost Maple SP?  We've only stayed  in 2 Texas SP and we very disappointed and they were quite pricey.

We are heading down to Padre Island in Jan and we are looking for some nice state parks between OK  and somewhere south of Dallas.  I've heard of Mustang Island near Padre Island, but don't know anything about the place.Smile

Lost Maples is north west of San Antonio near Bandera and Vanderpool.  It's very crowded on the weekends during October and November so if you plan to go you should go during the week.  When we pulled out of there on Veteran's Day, it looked like at least a 30-45 minute wait to get into the park.  I've heard it is much worse on a Saturday.

DH enjoyed Blanco for its fishing.  Of course we went there during the week as well so I am not sure what it is like on weekends.  We don't have jet skis or boats or any of those fun toys, so just being able to find a good riverbank to fish of was awesome for us.  We had a long stretch of river to hang out by.  Lots of shade, parking spots, bathrooms and DH caught several fish. They stock trout  in December so we can't wait to go back next month. Kiss

We, too, were looking at Mustang Island.  We have not been there either but were thinking of spending some time there during the winter.  So if anyone out there has been there, I would love to hear your comments and reviews.  We are also thinking of trying some state parks near the Waco area.  Waco is just south of Dallas.  Hopefully we'll get out there in the next few weeks.

I haven't actually stayed at Mustang, but was in the area a couple of years ago.  The area is really nice and it's on the beach.
