I like your lake and barn pics very well!  Sounds like you had a great time.  Good to know about the permits; someday I hope to get an inflatable kayak, and if so I'll have to 'get with the program' and make sure I'm legal.

Julie, I just wanted to say I really enjoy your trip reports. Laid out extremely well and very informative. I live in Lubbock, only a couple of hours south of Palo Duro Canyon, and felt as if I were there when reading that report. If you ever in the area again, try Caprock Canyons State park. They have the Texas State Bison herd. I attended the ribbon cutting (actually it was a symbolic barbed wire cutting) and the release of the bison into a large part of the state park this past weekend. It is neat to drive among the bison. I had done it before in Custer State park but to have bison up close and personal this near home is pretty neat. They are fenced out of the camping area but you only have to walk or drive a quarter mile to be in their habitat. This is phase one of a three step plan to make about 1500 acres available to the bison in the park. This is the first time in the bison's lives they have been allowed to graze and water as they did years ago when they ran free.

Didn't mean to get so off track. Keep up the excellent trip reports.
