First of all, are you holding down the knob for the pilot light for at least a minute or two [experts feel free to correct me here!] to allow the thermocouple to heat up in order to keep the valve to allow the burner to stay on?  Also, was there any wind — at all?  I've struggled to keep mine lit in open area campgrounds when it's windy, but have never had a problem in treed areas or when it's not windy.  I blamed the wind and not the equipment, but I don't really know for sure.  As for as what to do about it — it seems to help to have the access door shut to block out some of the wind, but I don't have any better suggestion than that.  I'm looking forward to the feedback from others! :)

Have you allowed the water to heat up? If so did the water heater shut down after reaching its operating temerature?
