OK, it may seem a strange question, but here is the back story.

We took our last trip over Thanksgiving & I was to remove the battery & set it inside on a charger to keep it ready for the spring. Well, the 1st week of December I tore the MCL in my right knee. If you never have had this problem (this was my 2nd time), consider yourself blessed. So I was down for about 2 months & did not feel like risking a trip out through mud, water, snow, etc to take out the battery.

So fast forward to spring & the battery has no charge. We had a nice day today so I was going to remove it & try to charge it up. Not sure if it will even charge, but that got me thinking — Do I even need the battery? We park at CGs with electric hookups. I occasionally get in it at home to work on something & turn on the lights, but they are not usually necessary. That is quite a bit of weight I could eliminate & if I need to buy a new one, possibly could be a waste of $$ if I don't really need the battery for any other purpose.

So what, if anything, am I missing?

Do you use the water pump when you aren't hooked up?  We use ours when dumping to flush the tanks and to put water in the black tank with the chemicals.

The monitors also run off battery power when not hooked up.  I would have to read up to see if they can run off shore power or if they are still on 12 volt through the converter/battery.

Furnace blower is battery operated as well, I believe.

Oh and I'm sorry to hear the MCL – yes, I tore one skiing when I was younger.  And it's not fun.  I've also had 2 TKRs and know that any knee injury is not fun.

WATER PUMP – only used it once at a dump station. I could work around it by looking for a full hookup site.

MONITORS – that could be a problem if they only work on battery power

FURNACE – never used it. We got a small ceramic heater & used it once or twice. Kept inside warm enough without having to turn on furnace at overnight temps in the upper 20s.

Thankfully I have been able to avoid surgery so far. Month and a half of therapy has been able to heal it. Doc said next time will be different though as he will go in & tighten up the ligament. Frown

I just read on RV.net a biggie.  The battery controls the trailer brakes in the event the break-away is activated.
