I made a PVC sewer hose container tube for our Rhinoflex sewer hose. The bumper is not big enough to contain the step down adapter or even the hose itself. I bought a 56″ length of thin wall 6″ diameter PVC pipe, a 6″ cap, and a 6″ threaded end with threaded cap. The only thing I need to do next is find some sort of handle that will mount to the threaded cap. The one you see in the photos isn't working out too well. Let me know what you think Laugh

The tube is cool, but I'm more interested in the bumper tray in the picture.

How much weight can it hold, how sturdy, and what exactly is it mounted to?

Thanks
Steve

Hello, bigjohn

Perhaps, if you bore a hole through the "PVC removal nut" using a long shaft drill bit, you can glue a wood / metal dowel into, which could act as a hand or finger perch to unscrew threaded plug.  Would also give you a lot more leverage to unscrew threaded plug.

bigjohn, this is a much better design for fishing rod and reel storage, than my plan to house in the bumper.  Thanks for the much needed idea assistance.Laugh

I have the hauler mounted on a bumper reciever hitch adapter. You can see a little more about it in this photo before the tube was mounted. The hitch adapter is attached around the bumper using 4 bolts with lock nuts and washers and it sits below the bumper. The hauler is aluminum so it is very lightweight but is rated to hold 500 pounds. We only have maybe 100 pounds or so on it. I'm not sure how much the bumper will hold up to. Here's a photo showing the hitch adapter.

I believe I'll try that out. Thanks John.

I thought someone told me on here that KZ doesnt reccommend any attachments such as bike racks on our bumpers due to them being spot welded and not continuious seam welded??? Can someone confirm this? I really would like to add a bike rack but concerned about the strenght of our bumper. I dont think it would add more than 100 pounds with the bikes.

Well what if he has the bumper reinforced to accommodate for the extra weight. I've seen them do it to the tongue to handle extra LP and batteries.

I have looked at the attachment of the bumper to the frame and I see no issues with the welds. I'm not going to be hauling a lot of weight back there, but even if I did it looks to me like the factory setup would handle it just fine. Maybe someone else who has the 14RB can chime in if they have some welding experience. Again, the factory work looks strong to me. There are seam welds attaching the bumper to the frame.

Did the interior dimensions of the bumper get enlarged a bit with the 2011 model year or something?  I just got the Rhino Flex, here, from Wally World about a week ago, and put it in the bumper for storage.  Admitedly, it was a tight fit, but everything except the funnel-looking adapter fit.  Has anyone else had a problem with this?  Seems like the manufacturer would design it to fit most applications like ours.  BTW, did you ever come up with a good solution for the handle on the end of the tube?

I bought the Rhinoflex last week and tried it over the weekend. Seems to work ok. However, this modification wouldn't work on the toy hauler versions (FKTH) due to the ramp drop down. Cry If I come up with something I'll post.

I store our double-length slinky hose, with attachments curled back and forth in covered shallow plastic tote from WallyWorld, then placed within TT basement storage area…….works good for us.

That's where I store the fresh water hose, and cross contamination would not be a happy thing.  But I agree with Bradster and Pfidahospud, the Rhino hose I ordered along with my new E14RB does fit in the bumper… well, in the curbside end but not in the driverside end.  Seems there is a bit of an indentation right at the opening on that side in the top of my tube.

I used that Rhino hose at the dump station and am very glad I got them to throw it into the deal.  It is a nice hose!

I keep mine in an enclosed Sterlite container in the outside storage as well.  There isn't contamination as the lid fits pretty well, plus I connect the two ends of the fresh water hose together.  I would like to do this mod anyway to free up space in the outside locker.

Did you drill holes in the bottom of the PVC for drainage?

Yes, I drilled a series of holes in the bottom for drainage. The main idea behind this is not to be putting a wet hose into something that will rust – the metal bumper. Also I did not like not being able to fit all my Rhino hose parts into the bumper. This works much better and there is plenty of space. For better removal of the cap I drilled a hole through the end of the cap and shoved a gutter nail through it, cutting off and filing down all sharp points. I'll post a pic sometime soon.
