Well I've been thinking of ways to make my 19BH more off grid compatable, and the biggest draw off the batteries is the interior lights that all rv manufacturers use due to most campsites have 110V available. Problem is that the spots I go do not have 110V availability, but 2 heavy duty 12V deep cycle batteries are more than sufficient to light the interior when using LED lighting for several days or more (and that includes leaving a couple on continuosly 24/7 for a week or more)

There are several solutions to the problem, the one I chose was to add an extra light fixture parallel to the existing fixtures and run them off the same wiring, so I can chose either LED, 12V Incandescent, or both.

First I bought a bunch of these LED Wired Puck Lights with Switch from Cabelas (my home away from home)

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas…..hasJS=true

They come with a switch on the base and a 6″ lead set (red and black wires) I add another 12″ to them, put a small hole in the ceiling a couple inches next to the light fixture, drop the existing fixture, feed the wires through the small hole for the light to the wires for the existing light, use crimp splices to attach the wiring (Red on the LED to the Black on the camper wiring, Black on the LED to the White on the camper wiring) Screw the fixtures back into place after wrapping the splices with electrical tape, and done. Then just turn the switch on the light you want on, and then use the wall switch like normal.

BIG WORD OF CAUTION:

Do not have your trailer plugged in to 110VAC when doing this type of work.

Disconnect the 12v ground (white wire) from your battery when doing this type of work.

Reason is so you do not accidentally short a wire and get shocked or start a fire.

Make sure all connections are well insulated and correct.

I am not liable if you try this and burn down your trailer or get fried by a bare wire. Only you are responsible for your actions, plus I do not think KZRV-LP Inc will cover this modification under any warranty and may void the warranty. When in doubt, consult a professional.

Now with that being said, I'm hoping to have more pics of this modification on my blog

More mods to come. Thanks for reading, any questions feel free to ask.

Most LED puck lights provide white light to help illuminate a path or hallway in the dark, or to provide subtle light in a large area. There are also lights made with colored LEDs to not only provide illumination but also create dramatic and interesting lights and patterns of color.
