HI RKers,

I was at a RV store the other day and saw the Classic line of campers. I must say I was impressed with what you get for the money. I looked at the 19 and 16 while I was there but I am leaning to maybe a 14 RB. However I see a dealer has a couple of 2010 RK units available for about  2k less. I noticed that there was no gas burners or fridge. Burners are not an issue I need the fridge though. These units have hot water too, does that mean it is also electric?

My questions are how do you folks like your campers ?

Have any of you added gas appliances to them?

Can The 5 K A/C keep the unit cool on hot days?

All electric is not too muck of an issue since I usually camp where there are 30 amp service for my pop up. I do however plan to go up into mountains about (tree line level) where it is primitive camping only.

One more thing dose this camper come with electric brakes?

Thanks in advance,

Joe

I have the 16BH so take what I say with a grain of salt.  The 5000BTU A/C struggles to keep up with Texas summers.  I got my TT last September and it was darnright warm in the trailer the first time we went out – at least during the day.  At night it was bearable, but not cool.

I believe the 14RB comes with electric brakes.  We looked at it when we got the 16 but decided we wanted the extra bed the lower bunk gave us.  And I'm pretty sure the 14RB hot water heater is propane.

We have the 14RB.    As sandersmr mentioned, it does have propane hot water heater and electric brakes.  Electric brakes are standard equipment.

For us in the 14', the AC is more than adequate.  We don't have to run it long before you can hang meat in there!  Last summer, during some high 90's-low 100's, the AC in our house went out, OF COURSE!  So we moved into the camper until the part I needed for the house AC came in.  We were perfectly comfortable, and I do NOT tolerate heat well at all….

We purposely ordered our 14RB with gas hot plate and gas/electric fridge.  We do a great deal of dry camping.  But, even so, it is nice to have the gas burners for the times during our travels to/from our vacation destinations.  As we simply pull off at truck stops and rest areas to spend the night ~ so it's nice to whip up a quick hot meal or throw on a pot of coffee just anywhere.

Thanks for the input. Do you tow with the F150 I also have a 2010 F150 with 4.6L what kind of mileage do you get towing?

I have an older 150 with the 4.6L and the slightly heavier 16BH – we get 9-11 mph where normally I would get 16-17 mph.15

Welcome, Joe to our forums.

Kim "Teaspoon" from Tennessee has an all decked out 14RK.  Kim perhaps will be chimming in, shortly.

We truely love our "all-electric" 14RK…..Standard stuff with the Regular Package and 5k A/C and 4 stabilizers, is fine for our week-end horse shows and visits with friends (as long as we can locate 15+ amp outlet).  We especially appreciate the larger "L-shaped counter and extra storage cabinets.  We were thrilled to purchase last February, even though we paid MSRP + Tax and License for pick-up in the spring…..still a heck of a deal, compared to prices others quoted us over previous two years for small TTs.

Other theads have reported that Texas owners find the 5K A/C inadequate for even the 14xx.  Perhaps, you dealer could exchange for the 6K others have mentioned or install the 13.5K Roof-A/C.

The 14RK comes standard with the 4.6 CuFT electric refer that plugs into outlet within cabinet designed for it.  If the dealer cannot provide, your home building supply can supply a good fit.

All 2010 Sport Classic TT come standard with either 10″ or 12″ electric brakes, depending on tire size, while surge-brakes have been optional.

I have the 14RK that has propane burners. gas/electric fridge, propane water heater. I did look at the all electric and made a special trip to NC from east tenn to see one since the price was substainically lower than the gas equipped one I have now. I think what changed my mind basically was the all electric one the dealer had didnt have a shower and after years and years of camping and using public showers I just wanted one of my own. I could have camped adaquately without the propane water heater (heating water for dishes on the hotplate or a small cannister type propane stove on outside picnic table), but having hot water at my fingertips is really nice. Its also nice to have a fridge that has propane because sometimes I have to park the trailer where elect isnt available and using an cooler with ice is one more thing to haul. ( I dont think the elect fridges run on 12volt only 110? ) I would however check with the dealer your considering purchasing from since you live in texas abouit increasing the ac unit as far as BTU's go..since many from that area have complaints about it not cooling down the trailer enough…Ive had mine however this year in over 100 degree heat and it did an ok job here in tenn…you really just have to evaluate where your going to be camping and what conviences you can live and live without…I dont foresee myself boondocking for instance as some on here do..but there might come a time I will want to..so I try and look at every senario, my budget and how comfortable I want to be. I can say though that I love the RK layout…I love having the kitchen in the rear and being able to have alot of counterspace for toaster, elect coffee maker..even a small tablelamp..plus doing dishes staring out the window over the lake is wonderful..I hope I gave you some food for thought and that whatever you decide to buy you wont have any regrets..

DW and I love our 14RK.  We bought in Nov 2010.  I wanted low tongue weight and hard sides.  DW loves the kitchen.

>Have any of you added gas appliances to them?

No, we have no gas plumbing.  We use a portable propane stove, a cat heater and will have a propane lantern for light/heat.

>All electric is not too muck of an issue since I usually camp where there are 30 amp service for my pop up. I do however plan to go up into mountains about (tree line level) where it is primitive camping only.

We are installing 300W of solar and already have a 2kw gasoline inverter/generator.  The solar is for the refrigerator, TV, computer, and lighting.  The generator is primarily for the microwave and urgent battery recharging.

>One more thing dose this camper come with electric brakes?

Yes.
