New member = Hello

I'm not even sure this is the right forum but, I just bought my first TT, and it is a KZ and says Sportsman on all 4 sides. But it is a 24' 5th wheel, it is a 1997 model in excellant condition and only appears to be a couple years old.

I was wondering if there is any info on this old of a trailer? The previous owner went over everything with me but had no owners manual or other info. I'm looking for something like an owners manual and instructions like what to do first when your set it up, like using the jacks to level it etc. Any help/input would be appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like you have a big brother to what most of us here have.  Most of ours are less than 20' bumper pull trailers.

The owner's manual for the Classic is not that helpful, so I'm thinking the Sportsmen owner's manual is probably not that helpful.  There will be some differences between a bumper pull and a 5th wheeler.

But basically, you chock your wheels after leveling side to side with some sort of wooden or plastic leveling system (I use Lynx leveling blocks – look like giant Lego's) on the low side, drop your landing gear, disconnect the 5th wheel, level front to back, drop your stabilizing jacks, then hook up your utilities.

You might try contacting KZ directly. Have your VIN number handy.

I concur w/sandersmr. Having owned a 40' Grand Junction 5th wheel in my previous life I'll tell you, you really won't find step-by-step setup instruction in the manual supplied by dealers / manufacturers. Your first step is ALWAYS survey, (Look Over) your site before doing any permanent setup. Make sure you find the most level s[pot and ALL of your utilities connections will reach and all slides, awnings, doors will operate and your door is located over patio, if one is provide. Now follow sandersmr recos. I would suggest, if you don't already have one, you invest in a head pin stabilizer and stabilizers for all slides. They really firm up the unit.

The jacks on the corners of our little trailers are only for stabilizing the trailer (so it doesn't wiggle much when moving inside it) and won't support weight enough to level the trailer.  On your 5th wheel you may have big jacks on the front that do support the trailer when unhooked… I don't know anything about those.  I just didn't want you to think you could level it with the little stabilizer jacks.

Be sure to chock the tires before unhooking.  Setup usually includes hooking up electric, water, maybe sewer, maybe tv cable… but you can do those in any order, or not do them at all if you are self contained and don't need them.  Don't have to unhook, either, for that matter.  But it is important to make yourself a checklist in the beginning of what you're doing to set up, then refer to the list when you get ready to depart.  It's way too easy to forget something… like leaving the antenna up, not unhooking the hose, etc. Embarassed  A list will really help.
