I am recently retired and want to combine my love of photography with travelling around North America.  I originally wanted to get a small RV but money and circumstances changed that.  So … starting this spring I will be embarking on my "North American Odyssey."

Since I don't need the trailer until the spring I have delayed delivery till spring 2011. I am now anxiously counting down the months.

My first three major trips will be: ROUTE 66 ADVENTURE; NEWFOUNDLAND ADVENTURE and ALASKA ADVENTURE.  I have plans for numerous small trips planned but these are the major ones for now.

I will be pulling my trailer with a 2011 Toyota Sienna Limited. I'm sure that she will be sufficient to haul a 14RB.

Looking forward to learning more about travel trailer travelling in this FORUM.

Regards

Karsty

I just got my 16BH a couple of weeks ago.  We were looking at the 14RB until I found the 16' at the same price.  And it was still a case of eeny-meeny because each had their advans and disadvans.  I like the gaucho in the 14 and the bunk and pantry in the 16, but don't like the lack of floor space with 2 dogs.  It seems like the 14 had more floor space but it may because of where the door is located.

I looked at the 16 footer as well but I will be travelling alone 99% of the time so the 14RB seemed to fit the bill for me. I also liked the extra floor space. It will just be me, my laptop and tons of camera equipment.

I wish I could get mine now but with winter quickly approaching here in the north … plus all my other travel plans already in place for the rest of the year, I opted to wait till spring. I am looking forward to getting it however and will be mulling over the various thread in this FORUM to get some tips and ideas on extra equipment etc.

The good thing about living in the South is we can use ours pretty much year round – except maybe during the hottest part of summer.  The AC is a little undersized for TX heat/humidity mid-summer.  We are planning to go to AZ for Christmas in ours.

And DBF is afraid I'm going to load ours with camera equipment.  As my niece says, I'm a "photo-grapher" (not photographer Laugh).  I take enough pics and get lucky to get 1 or 2 good ones.

A friend of mine is going to AZ for the winter. He sold the house and purchased a 5th wheel trailer. Lives in it in the north during the summer and south in the winter. Spend the last two years in Texas and just wants to try something different this year.

Digital photography makes it easy … take hundreds and if you get a handful of good ones … bonus. For me it will be about documenting my trips mostly. But I will also like to get some to post on my web site as well. I LOVE MY CAMERAS AND TAKING PICTURES!!

My daughter just bought a place in FL so I have a place to go in the winter if I want … but I want to explore everywhere so will only stay there for a few weeks. Next year I'll take the trailer with me and then leave from there and head to TX to visit my friend in Beaumont … and from there … wherever the road leads me.

Karsty, if you come to Oklahoma for Route 66 I'd suggest a stay at Red Rock Canyon State Park about 3/4 hour west of OKC.  The CG is down in the canyon with the red walls around the sides.  When I was there I got a nice photo sequence of some kids rappelling down the wall with ropes.

The round barn at Acadia is worth a picture or two.  And if you don't mind a detour a bit to the south near Lawton, Mount Scott has great views… you drive to the top, trailer no problem… and there are plenty of critters in the Wichita Mtn Wildlife Refuge just west of Mt. Scott.

Well it is official. After waiting through the fall and winter my Spree Escape E14RB is being built and will be delivered and ready for pickup on April 20th. I have gleamed much information from the FORUM and thanks to all whom have contributed with equipment and upgrade suggestions etc.

Scott: Thanks so much for the additional information on Route 66. I will file it with my travel plans. Not sure when I will be heading out on the Route 66 trip. I have been retired for just one year and the past year has been hectic. Many smaller trips and visits to family and friends … I am anxious however to get started on some of my major trips.

I am planning a couple of "shake down" trips as soon as I get the trailer. I'll let you all know how that works out.

She's here!!! I am sitting in my brand new 2011 KZ Spree Escape E14RB. She is parked in my driveway with the furnace running (darn cool here in Niagara). I picked it up this afternoon after going through my orientation and having the trailer light kit and the electric brake module installed on my van. . Took it for a bit of a drive around to see how she handles then headed to the vacant Walmart lot to practice my backing up. I did drive a small 5th-wheel trailer periodically when I was working so I had the idea down … just need more practice. She seemed to handle OK … not really sure what to expect since this is my first TT. I did manage to back it into my driveway between the house and the fence … about 6″ to spare on each side. I'm plugged into shore power and am sifting through the mountains of manuals and operating instructions for the various accessories. Not sure if I will sleep in it tonight. I want to get the bedding etc ready so maybe tomorrow night. I'll need extra blankets to stay warm since I don't want to run the furnace all night. I do have a small radiant heater that I might bring out and try as well. I will post a picture later in the PICTURE THREAD. So now the adventure begins. I don't have a trip planned until the middle of May but I may head out on a couple of overnighters to visit the local Walmart Stores . Lots of toys and accessories to be purchased over the next few weeks. But I guess that is half the fun of camping/travelling in a TT.
