Hi All,

Brand new member here.  Not new to camping, but am new to RV'ing.  Just bought my first travel trailer after looking for so many years.  Settled on the Sportsmen Classic 190 just a few days ago.  Will be pulling it with an '11 F150.  Really looking forward to the adventures it promises and the interaction with the community.

Cheers!

Mike M.

I do like that floorplan.  I wish they had it available when I bought my 16BH.  Welcome to the boards and I wish you many nights of camping fun with your new trailer.

BTW – post pics when you get it and to any mods you might do – you do realize that the Sportsmen Classics are just the starting points right?  There are so many ways to make it "yours".

Welcome & enjoy!

I concur with sandersmr, you can get a lot of great ideas from the mod section on this site as to how you can enjoy your Sportsman to it's fullest.

Thanks guys!  Have got a three night inaugural trip booked for mid-April, so we're jumping right in here.  I'm picking it up April 7, and of course will just be using it as-is at first.  Am looking forward to "making it ours" though, as you were saying.  Little at a time.  Will post pics as we go.

Hi Mike!

Welcome to the forum.  Lots of great info here.  My wife and I just traded our 14RB for a Classic 200. Dragged it to Washington DC for the Cherry Blossom Festival and we had a great time.  She towed like a dream behind our minivan and even handled the traffic going through Chicago with no trouble at all.  It was our first trip with her . . . . . 1,000 miles each way and not a hitch.  Love the Classics and you will, too!  What part of SE Mass are you from?  I'm originally from Cape Cod and am now in Wisconsin.

Hi Paul,

I'm from the Bridgewaters area, which is just 30-40 miles from the bridges.  We're going to Scusset for a short off-season excursion for our first trip with the 190.  That 200 you've got is also an attractive floorplan – lots of room around the bed!

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of minivan are you towing your rig with, and what did you experience for fuel mileage?

We tow with a 2006 Chrysler Town and Country equipped with the factory tow package which includes the 3.8L V6, heavy duty engine/tranny coolers, heavy duty alternator/battery and load leveling.  We averaged around 14MPG.

Wow!  14mpg is pretty darn good considering the size of the unit you're pulling.  I'm impressed!  I'm very curious to see how my setup does over the road.  I'll be sure to post it as I go.

The average did drop into the 13's while driving through the Appalachians, but other than that she did really well.  The key is to accelerate very slowly.  I like to imagine there's an egg under the gas pedal and I sure don't want to mess up my carpeting!  The hardest thing for me was to stop being concerned about the drivers behind me getting impatient.  They don't like it they can pass, darn it!  I also kept my speed to a high end of 55MPH.  All of these things make quite a difference.  There's a LOT more to improved MPG than just the equipment you drive, for sure!
