Purchased a new SC 19BH and brought it home on Thursday.  Love the floorplan with the U shaped dinette.  I'm retired and DH will retire in about 6 months.  We are looking foward to some traveling.

Thought we'd take a shake down cruise about 10-11 November but when I checked on campgrounds within a couple hours of home, they were already reserved.  That came as quite a surprise to us.  Guess we'll have to prepare well in advance.

We've never had any type of RV so we are newbies and eager to learn.  The orientation the dealer provided was very good and we asked many questions and took many notes.  Once we got the unit home, it was as though I didn't learn a thing….what did he tell us about…..etc.

I'm thankful to have found this forum. Reading the various topics has answered several questions and provided several tips.   However, I'm sure I'll be leaning on all you experienced pros for quite awhile!

Did you check for any availability at your nearby state parks?  Usually you have a pretty good chance to get into the state parks of northern Florida, especially arriving mid-week as you mentioned.   Here's a link for Florida State Parks:  http://floridastateparks.org/

One handy way to find availability is to use the Florida State Parks/Reserve America website to search for a park:

http://floridastateparks.reser…..dSearch.do

Thanks Julie – those were the sites I used as we were hoping to get a State Park – didn't matter if it was near the ocean or not.  Our first choice was Stephen Foster or Suwanee but I checked availability for all listed in N FL.  Thursday night wasn't a problem.  It was Friday that was completely booked.  Maybe we'll go just for one night.   We live near Jacksonville.

Sorry, I did see Gold Head on the listing but not the rest.  Will check them out.  We're only 45 mins from Gold Head – not much there anymore.  Will check the rest out.  Thanks again.

Oh for the good old days.  Back in the early '70s my folks used to take me (from Michigan) to Fla and the Keys around New Year's.  We could go by Pennekamp SP around 10 am and always get a site.  That area just seems to get more and more popular.

How about that, small world!  I spent a year at NMU, but missed the home cooking and transferred to Ferris for the next 3.  I have a sister up there though, near Stephenson.

I hope you can get out camping soon.  Down there the weather's still fine, I'm sure.  You'll have to post a campsite picture after you've been out in the trailer.

A small world indeed!  I grew up about 1/2 hour from Big Rapids (Ferris)!

I'm from Iron River and my husband is from "over the border" (river) in Wisconsin.   Our families' still live up that area.  Don't think I could take the winters anymore.  Have been in Florida since 1974.

I'm familair with Ferris.  A couple of high school classmates (from way back) went to Ferris – pharmacy school.  Have a niece now attending NMU – really cold there compared to the rest of the UP.  I ended up going to college in DePere, WI near Green Bay.  Needless to say, we're avid Packer fans.

Going on a camping trip this Thursday – Hanna Park in Jacksonville.  Husband goes up north to MI and Wi to deer hunt in 12 days, so need to get this trip in.  I've been busy outfitting the trailer this week.  Wow, $$$$$$!

Go Lions! Laugh

I hope the hunting trip turns out just the way he likes it.  My sister lives on a dairy farm, and most years they get a block permit so hunters can take a bunch of deer out of there.  They sometimes see herds of 30-50 deer decimating a corn field.  Terrible crop damage.  They're always glad to have hunters around there.

A hunting story for your husband: my eldest brother once was deer hunting at that farm, in a tree stand.  He only had a buck permit.  He'd eaten too much taco salad and while up there it started his gut to griping bad.  So he dropped his pants and carefully edged his backside out over the platform edge… and just then a deer came into view!  He picked up his rifle and is trying to sight on the deer with the scope while having diarrhea over the edge. Embarassed It turned out to be a doe so he let it go.  Afterward as he climbed out of the tree stand, he discovered… um… something all over the ladder rungs.  Had to throw his handkerchief away after cleanup.  We all laughed like crazy when he came in and told the story and complained about the $#*&@ taco salad that Mom fed him.  Laugh
