I have a homebuilt teardrop and a 86 Serro Scotty. I'm considering selling the Scotty and purchasing one of the Cllassic models.  I'm leaning towards the bunk option as it's fun to invite my nieces and nephews along on many of my trips. The 16' camper, that a local dealer has in stock, looks to be a nice option.

Anyone willing to post the good, the bad or the ugly about the Sportsman Classic line prior to purchase?  The units look great and they seem to be at a fair price.  Right now I keep dumping money into my used camper and think a newer model would be nice and a better investment.

thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum Barb.  I live in Akron and purchased my 16BH in June from Kamper City in Peninsula.  I camp with my wife and eight year old daughter.  We're actually leaving Wed. after work for the Columbus area for four nights.  So far we have enjoyed our RV and have had very little trouble.  Some members are having problems with the A/C cooling their RV's, so this might be an issue.  I have a Fantastac Fan installed as do other members and it helps cool and circulate the air in the cabin so no problem for me so far.  (good old northeast Ohio weather)  I had a very good experience with my dealer so if you have time you might want to stop by and see what they can do for you.  I bought a 2011 at what I think was a good price and he also has a few 2010's that you might be able to negotiate better on.

Barb, get the 16. It's worth your time. The issues with the AC seem to be localized to living in Texas. I live in TX now and have felt what the AC can do down here. it's not as bad as described from my personal opinion. However you are in the upper midwest and I know for a fact that the summers there are milder than down here. I say this because I've been thru at least a couple of MN summers. I know Ohio isn't too far off.

Whatever you decide, do the research. I'm sure you won't be let down by what you learn.

Barb, my wife and I have been very pleased with our 14RK (Rear Kitchen) model, all electric unit.  The 16BH (Bunk House) model is only 15 inches longer, with little added weight over the 14RK/RB.  I think the 16 BH is a good bet, with owners reporting very little trouble, thus far.

No trouble with our 16BH so far, we've been out 4-5 times.  One definite shortfall though, which is not a fault of the TT by any means, is the lack of a seperate bed that we don't constantly have to convert table-to-bed-to-table.  Which can be solved with the 19BH ;) However, at the time of purchase, we were limited to less than 3000lbs and the 19BH wasn't available at any of the local dealers.  I would consider this model the best choice for its size.  You will rarely find a 16' TT with a separate shower and toilet (vs. the common "shoilet"), counter space, a closet and a pantry.  Unfortunately, it does sit quite low to the ground, which can be an issue with jack clearance and holding tank dumping.  Something that can be fixed by switching the spring position (known as a axle fliip). We looked at the R-pods and even the 17' with the slide-out felt cramped (AND it had the dreaded "shoilet")  I feel confident that you won't be disappointed!

We will pick up our 16BH this Monday from a dealer in Austin, TX.  It looks like it will fit our needs perfectly.
